The Uasin Gishu clan of the Maasai community in Trans Mara, Narok county, held a colourful ceremony in which more than 3,000 morans from the Ilkisakara (25 to 30 years) and Rompoi (31-40 years) age sets were merged into one age set last Saturday. The 3,000 men will now be known as the members of the Ilnyankusi age set. To mark this transition, an elaborate ceremony that ended at midnight was held, in which the men took an oath to remain united and protect the community. This ceremony is held once a decade.
